Food for the Soul..

I believe that when we are first born into a ‘body’ as such, a part of us becomes separate from the source from which we came and a sense of ‘separateness’ envelopes us. There is an aspect of us that has left the comfort and oneness of the greater whole of which we are all a part. I even think that it is possible that the reason that babies cry a lot is because they feel that ‘separation’ which they cannot express other than to cry.

I remember a brief experience that I had whilst I was just a baby in the cot that I can still recall very, very, distinctly as if it were only yesterday. Although I didn’t yet have language, the equivalent feeling that came over me as I looked at the scenario taking place around me was ‘This is a very strange place’ as if I had some kind of ‘internal knowing’ that I came from a ‘different’ place. As if I had existed before I was born.

There are only two events that I can recall from all of my time spent as a baby in a cot. This one, was for me, significant.

I believe that we carry this feeling of separateness throughout our lives as we continue to function and try to place ourselves into the world into which we are born.

We can live in a huge city with millions of people around us and still feel very alone.

Loneliness is an accepted aspect of so many peoples’ lives. Even in a crowd or whilst sitting with a big group of people or at a party, an internal feeling of separateness can be felt.

I believe that this is a very normal reaction of coming into our individual human experience.

Through the dedicated and disciplined practice of deep silent meditation, it is possible to come to know and feel that aspect in each one of us that is united as ‘one whole’ and in that ‘whole’ we merge together as ‘one’thing.

When one comes to realise this, the focus of their lives begins to shift from being a ‘taker’ looking after ‘me’, to becoming a ‘giver’ ready to ‘serve others’ because they understand that they are not separate from anyone else and a peace and contentment grows inside of them as they evolve more and more into that awareness.

This ‘coming into this awareness’ by each of us is, I believe, is the only path that will ultimately lead us to creating real peace on Earth. People will not want to bully or abuse or even want power over anyone else once they realise that they are actually united as ‘one’ at a deeper and greater level.

Once you come to know the ‘oneness’ of all things, you will automatically develop a genuine wish that all people find happiness and live to their fullest potential whilst here having their human experience. The feeling of separateness lessens as your knowledge of ‘oneness’ grows.
